THE HOTEL
What has shaped this house...
A house always tells more than just its story. It tells of people, of time – and of what remains.
The Albergo Toscana is exactly that kind of place. It has grown over the years, shaped by decisions, memories, and a love for detail.
A piece of Tuscany – right in the heart of Saxon Switzerland.

Its beginnings as Villa Tannenheim from 1870 onwards
The house was originally built around 1870 as "Villa Tannenheim".
Even back then it served as a guesthouse – a place for travelers, for relaxation, for encounters.
This idea of welcoming people has remained part of the house to this day.
From guesthouse to residential building
Like many houses, Villa Tannenheim has also experienced different eras.
After the Second World War, it became a residential building. In the GDR, it served as an apartment building – simple, functional, dedicated to everyday life.
The first mayor of Bad Schandau after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 also lived here for a time.
The house was never just a building – but always part of the city's history.

The years before the new beginning
Eventually, Villa Tannenheim fell silent. The house stood empty for over ten years. The roof leaked, and the structure was badly damaged. Dry rot had spread, and many rooms were beyond saving.
There were many reasons to abandon this place. And yet, a new chapter began right here. After the devastating floods of 2002, we took over the house – in a condition that demanded one thing above all: courage.
The decision was conscious: not to build anew, but to preserve.
Step by step, a forgotten house was transformed back into a place with a future.
The return of hospitality
The house was reopened in 2009 – as Albergo Toscana with 11 rooms.
The vision was clear: a place that brings the warmth and serenity of Tuscany to Saxon Switzerland. Colors, materials, and details followed this idea – a common thread that ran through the entire house. This even extends to breakfast.
A new chapter
Over time, not only does a house change – but so does the way we look at it.
In the winter of 2023/24, the Albergo Toscana underwent a complete redesign. Existing elements were consciously preserved, and much was carefully developed further. Furniture remained but was refined. Spaces were opened up, simplified, and designed to be brighter.
Today, the house represents a new lightness: minimalist, clear – yet warm. At the same time, a new chapter begins.
Since 2024, Antonia, representing the second generation, has been an integral part of the family business. She brings new ideas, a fresh perspective, and the ambition to continue the Albergo Toscana tradition – without losing sight of its roots.
This keeps the house in motion. And yet completely self-contained.
