THE VILLA
A house full of stories
Some houses don't display their history outwardly – they keep it within. Villa Bohemia is just such a place. A house that has experienced much over the decades – and whose special atmosphere is still palpable today.

The beginnings around 1870
Villa Bohemia was built around 1870 – an architectural gem in Saxon Switzerland. The house was a popular guest house from early on. Even the descendants of the Struve family, known as the inventors of mineral water, stayed here.
A hidden chapter
For a long time, it was only a suspicion. But a letter from 1932 brought certainty: as early as 1890, secret Catholic services were held in this house – at a time when Bad Schandau was predominantly Protestant. A small chapel was set up in an underground storage room. With great dedication, a family managed to persuade priests from Bohemia to celebrate Sunday Mass. Thus, a quiet place of faith was created – hidden within the house. A piece of history that continues to resonate today.

Changed. Forgotten. Rediscovered.
Like many houses, Villa Bohemia was altered over time. During the GDR era, it served as a residence for several families, and its original structure was increasingly obscured. After 2002, we acquired the house – in dire need of renovation. Much had been changed or lost over the years. Our decision was clear: not to reinvent the wheel, but to uncover its true character. Step by step, Villa Bohemia was restored to its original state.

Exposed
During the process, remarkable details were revealed: Hidden beneath layers of old wallpaper were artistic ceiling and wall paintings. These were carefully restored in collaboration with an experienced stage painter. The original room layout was also reconstructed, with later alterations and additions deliberately removed.
Apartments with character
Today, Villa Bohemia unites history and modernity. Three individually designed apartments combine historical substance with contemporary ease. Spacious rooms, thoughtful details, and tranquil retreats in the garden create a special atmosphere. A place to arrive – steeped in history.
